Making sure her team members feel supported and heard is what’s important to Karla Smith. Joining Lifestyle Solutions almost two years ago, Karla held various positions in Clinical and Learning, and Diversity and Practice, before commencing as a Disability Service Specialist in Queensland seven months ago.

“I had previously worked in mental health and forensic mental health, so this position was like a whole new world for me. I’ve really enjoyed being able to bring a fresh perspective,” said Karla.

Karla, who calls herself a people person, has always had a strong interest in mental health and helping people and spent over 12 years working in the community services sector

“I’ve had a lot of experience supporting people through difficult stages of their lives. As a social worker, encouraging change and growth is a part of who I am and what I believe in, so working in the community sector has always attracted me.”

Karla completed a Bachelor of Social Science with a Psychology major, a post graduate Diploma in Forensic Mental Health, and a Master of Social Work. She worked at Head Space National Youth Mental Health in Bathurst, before moving overseas to London to further her career.

Seeking a change of scenery, Karla relocated to Brisbane for her new role at Lifestyle Solutions in April 2019.

“I’m enjoying the new processes and new way of working at Lifestyle Solutions. The mentoring and coaching side of my role is really great.”

A highly ambitious individual, Karla is a member of Lifestyle Solutions’ Diversity and Inclusion Working Group with plans to further her studies and complete a PHD.
