Leisure links for younger people with challenging behaviours
Our Leisure Links Program is designed for young people with disability who demonstrate challenging behaviours and are at risk of suspension or expulsion from school.
Leisure Links is an early intervention program that provides out-of-school-hours care for young people with challenging behaviours. Participants can access a range of age appropriate leisure and mentoring programs during weekends, evenings and school holidays. These activities are designed to:
-
Develop positive behaviour
-
Improve communication and social skills
-
Build and develop friendships
-
Encourage participation and positive interaction
-
Inspire confidence
But most importantly, the activities and program are designed to enhance the capacity of the young person with disability to remain at school or at home.
The young people with disability who we support in our Leisure Links program are generally in high school and have a broad range of behavioural problems. Learning the skills and stragegies to manage behaviour is very rewarding for the people we support. A positive experience at school delivers enormous social and developmental benefits and we have witnessed first-hand the enormous impact Leisure Links has on the lives of individuals, their families and carers.
