Jason, a person we support in our Leaving Care program, is taking on the streets now he has been successful in getting his provisional motorbike licence. We had a quick chat with him about his achievement.
Who taught you to ride a motorbike?
I taught myself.
How hard was it to get your motorbike L plates?
Getting my L’s was easy. I studied on the internet and then went into the RTA and passed the test.
Was it hard to get your P plates?
Yes it was very hard, the tester follows you around while you ride and you can't make any mistakes.
How many times did you go for your P’s?
I got them the first time!
What is the biggest ride you have done so far?
I rode from the Central Coast down to Canberra and back again.
What does having your bike and licence mean to you?
It makes me independent; I can go anywhere I want. I love riding my bike. Sometimes I get up and go watch the sunrise at the beach. Sometimes I go see my brother. Sometimes I ride around the whole Central Coast doing a big lap. I am going to ride my bike down to see my grandparents’ tomorrow. When I get my full licence I am going to get a bigger bike. One day I would like to ride a Harley Davidson cruiser. That would be great.
