For the first time in Queensland, Lifestyle Solutions' Camp to Belong brought together 51 siblings from across Queensland and interstate.
The main focus of the camp is to promote and/or establish a positive relationship between siblings living in separate placements who don’t often get the chance to see or spend time with each other. Some siblings might have regular contact with each other, whilst others haven’t seen each other in a number of years.
This year we had the honour of supporting the introduction of siblings who had never met before!
Support Staff were integral to the success of Camp to Belong 2010. Murray Brookes (Camp Coordinator QLD) coordinated the week-long camp with the support of Steve Gaul, Gary Christensen and twenty-five support workers, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
Siblings at Camp to Belong were able to spend quality time together through a wide variety of recreational activities designed to challenge and excite, promote teamwork and self-confident and develop communication and behaviour management skills.
Promoting positive sibling relationships is a key objective of Camp to Belong and in 2010 we were pleased to have achieved that goal, receiving positive feedback from some of the siblings on the camp:
- "I enjoyed the raft building, Dreamworld, the food, campfire. I loved spending time with my brother.
The movie night and the birthday party were also fun."
- "Thanks for the camp. It was fantastic and me and my brothers and sister had so much fun, so we're really looking forward to going to the next camp."
- "Camp was fun. I love all the kids at camp they are so nice. I loved spending time with my brother. Dreamworld was great! Had fun at dinner, the food was yummy."
- "I loved Dreamworld because I went on the Nickelodeon ride and I had fun with my sister."
