Alan is a young and very determined man who we support at our Port Stephens Day Program. Alan has been with Lifestyle Solution's Transition to Work Program for two years and has always given 110%!
Over these two years, Alan has had a goal relating to work and gaining work skills. To address this goal, Alan has participated in a number of work related workshops such as communication, workplace etiquette, interview skills and problem solving to name just a few.
Alan has also participated in training such as Responsible Conduct of Gambling (RCG), Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) and Safer Work training provided by the TAFE. He has chosen several work experience places as he was interested in exploring his options and gaining the skills required to get the job he wanted.
Alan chose to do work experience at a recycling centre, a café at a local church, Coles, a primary school canteen, BI-LO, a golf club and IGA. Alan enjoyed his time at all of these places and asked to extend his working hours.
A wonderful characteristic of Alan is his endless motivation and commitment. Although in his first year of work experience Alan didn't get a job, he still kept his motivation high for the second year. After Coles and BI-LO, Alan wasn’t sure if it was something he had the skills for, but after he worked at a smaller IGA supermarket things began to change.
Alan was offered a paid position after being at IGA for five weeks. He is now enjoying his work and is improving every day but like everyone else, he is still learning about many areas.
Alan proves the saying "if at first you don't succeed try, try, try again".
